What better way to experience the stunning Transylvanian scenery than on horseback! The region, particularly the area around Cund, is a true paradise for riders, earning Valea Verde a reputation as a real horse riding retreat. In this part of the “land beyond the forest”, beautiful trails wind their way through ancient forests, while endless open fields offer the perfect conditions for exploring this stunning and special part of the world. At Valea Verde, we are the proud owners of four horses, who can be ridden in our dedicated riding arena or, by proficient equestrians, out in the glorious countryside. An experienced riding instructor will be on hand to teach beginners the basics and guide the more advanced along wonderful trails through the Transylvanian wilderness. A great way to discover more of the wonderful landscape around Cund is by travelling on a horse drawn carriage! Depending on your preferences, we have curated a variety of different excursions - if you prefer just a shorter experience around the village or a day trip through a divers natural setting and pictoresc villages. The Valea Verde Wilderness Observatory is a charming wood cabin set in a picturesque pear tree orchard on the edge of the forest. Enjoy a truly special time in the enchanting interior of the cabin or on its balcony. Immerse yourself completely in the outstanding natural beauty of the Transylvanian wilderness and take in the long uninterrupted views of the surrounding fields, hills and skies. In this inspiring rural setting, we regularly spot an abundance of animals including eagles, foxes, deer, wild cats and even occasionally the traces of a brown bear...Start your evening with a horse and cart ride in a classic carriage from the Valea Verde, though the village and the orchard. After 20min you will arrive at the cabin, where you will be welcomed by a waiter who will serve you a glass of sparkling wine. We will then leave you with a choice of our wines (see offers below) and water. Your coachman will drive you back in the carriage at the agreed hour.

We have a range of mountain bikes in various sizes to rent to our guests. The valleys and hills around Cund constitute wonderful terrain for cycling, and we believe that the gorgeously serene surroundings are ideally suited to visiting on two wheels! Our little village is home to one of Romania’s most important producers of artisanal cheese: “Manufactura de Brânză”. Cows raised by the Hungarian Varga family graze on the hills surrounding Cund where they feed on grass and wild spices – making the milk they produce fabulous! Inspired by this excellent milk, young cheese-maker Istvan Varga set about making quality cheese, using Swiss methods. Our guests can even take part in the production process, between 10 and 12.30, and learn all about how the milk is transformed into delicious cheese. During the workshop, guests will be able to sample some of the ripened cheeses from Istvan’s cellar, and will receive a small gift to take home. - Duration: Two and a half hours - Includes: workshop, tasting and small gift EUR 25,- per person (groups of between two and six guests)

The outstanding beauty of the Transylvanian Wilderness and its wildlife go hand in hand and watching it is an amazing experience! In a partnership with our local hunting association we offer our guests the chance to explore observe the wilderness and its wildlife from a purpose build stand in the forest and sometimes we even get to see some bears!!!

For several years, we at Valea Verde have been organizing truffle hunting weekends, as Transylvania has become increasingly celebrated for the quantity and quality of these luxury treats.
